Costume awards in the UK seem to favour period design. I like period design and was trained this way, but in doing so, the British seem narrow and silly. There is no balance in nominations, no contemporary design, no fantasy, no entertainment, and the British do all these things so well. We also do period well too, but unless you have a huge budget each new period show has a few new designs and a load of hires and re-cycled costumes.
Contemporary drama has makes, and unique looks which are chosen to compliment each character and are also well thought out by both the designers and actors. Period choices are limited.
